Man charged in connection to Sheffield murder investigation

A 49-year-old man has been charged in connection to the murder of Antony Sumner.

Richard Sampson, 49, of Fretson Court, Sheffield, was charged yesterday (1 August) on suspicion of murder and possession of a bladed weapon in public. He has been remanded into custody to appear at Sheffield Magistrates Court today (2 August 2021).

Police were called on Thursday at 11.55pm to reports that a man had been attacked on Windy House Lane, Sheffield.

Officers attended the scene and discovered a 42-year-old man who had suffered critical injuries. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the victim, Alan Anthony Marcus Sumner, known as Anthony, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A 15-year-old boy from Sheffield, who was arrested on Saturday 31 July on suspicion of murder, has been released on bail.
