Millers bested in the Second City

“We’ve been punished for a poor start to the game and probably a poor first half performance.

Two first half goals proved too much to overcome as the Millers slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Birmingham City at St. Andrew's.

A fine solo goal from Reda Khadra and a strike from Kevin Long put the Blues in a strong position going into half time and despite a second half onslaught, Matt Taylor's men were unable to force themselves back into the game.

The manager made one change from the starting XI that beat Queens Park Rangers last Saturday, with Lee Peltier coming back into the side to partner Cameron Humphreys in defence, replacing Bailey Wright, with new signing Tyler Blackett named among the substitutes.

Matt Taylor post-Birmingham City...

“We’ve been punished for a poor start to the game and probably a poor first half performance.

“We have to give the opposition credit at times, they out muscled us and got there first and came on top in most of the duals in that first half period.

“We’re disappointed with the goals in the first half. In the second half we improved and I could have made more than two changes at half time.

“We looked more aggressive with our intent and the way we went about our performance. We need one of those half chances to go in, really, just to give us something to really keep fighting before towards the end of the game.

“We’re pleased with the second half, but disappointed with the first. They were covering the space better than we were, you could say they were more aggressive, we just weren’t quite where we needed to be and we couldn’t quite stand the flow.”
